Optimising a bedroom for space can make it feel more organised

    OmniViewpointBy OmniViewpointSeptember 18, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Optimising a bedroom for space can make it feel more organised, functional, and comfortable. Here are some practical space-saving tips:

    1. Use Multi-functional Furniture

Storage Beds: Choose a bed with built-in storage drawers or lift-up storage underneath to keep linens, clothing, or seasonal items.

Fold-out or Murphy Beds: Great for small rooms, these beds fold into the wall or cabinet to free up floor space during the day.

Sofa Beds: If your bedroom doubles as a living area, a sofa bed can provide seating by day and a bed at night.

Ottomans or Benches with Storage: Place these at the foot of your bed for extra seating and hidden storage.

    1. Maximise Closet Space

Double Hanging Rods: Add an extra rod in your closet to hang more clothes vertically.

Shelf Dividers and Baskets: Use them to keep folded clothes, bags, and accessories organised on closet shelves as well as sliding wardrobe doors.

Door Organisers: Use the back of the closet or bedroom door to hang shoes, accessories, or extra storage bins.

    1. Vertical Storage Solutions

Wall-Mounted Shelves: Use vertical space to store books, décor, or daily-use items.

Floating Nightstands: Attach a small shelf or box to the wall beside your bed instead of using a bulky nightstand.

Hanging Organisers: Install hooks for bags, scarves, or jewelry. You can also hang organisers for extra shoe or accessory storage.

    1. Compact Furniture and Layout

Corner Desks or Foldable Desks: A corner or wall-mounted desk can create a compact workspace, and folding options can be stowed away when not in use.

Slim Dressers: Instead of wide, bulky dressers, opt for tall, narrow ones to save floor space while maintaining storage capacity.

Floating or Foldable Shelving Units: These units take up little floor space and can be folded away when not needed.

    1. Under-Bed Storage

Use storage bins or baskets designed to slide under your bed for easy access to extra linens, shoes, or seasonal items.

If your bed is low, bed risers can create additional storage space underneath.

    1. Opt for Sliding Doors

Replace swing-out doors with sliding wardrobe doors or pocket doors, whether for your closet or the bedroom entrance, to free up space.

    1. Mirrors to Create Illusion of Space

Use wall-mounted mirrors to reflect light and make the room appear larger. Consider mirrored closet doors to combine functionality and space optimisation.

    1. Nesting or Stackable Furniture

Stackable chairs or nesting tables can be stored compactly when not in use and easily brought out as needed.

    1. Optimise Lighting

Use wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted lights instead of bulky floor or table lamps. Hanging pendant lights above bedside tables can save surface space.

    1. Declutter and Prioritise Essentials

Minimise unnecessary items and prioritise keeping only what you need. Utilise storage solutions like sliding door wardrobes and vacuum-sealed bags for seasonal clothing or linens.

Incorporating these strategies can transform even the smallest bedroom into a functional, organised, and spacious retreat.
